Research

Did a small research on the current website to get an overview about the organization. Found many issues that are more of UI than functionality issues. Below are some points which I found can be improved in the current website. Did a sample wireframe for this too.

Issues Suggestions/ Comments
The overall look and feel of the current website is not matching with the latest trends. Can go with responsive parallax scolling which is a very commonly using design technique. This feature add some add some excitement to the experience.
Most images/ icons used in this website are blurred. Use svg format images instead of png images. The benefits of using this format are scalability, SEO friendly, editing ability and resolution independence. So the edges will be sharp and the visibility of the smaller texts will also improve.
Text/ links doesn’t have any hover effect. User will get confused while hovering on the link. Especially in the footer section. Can highlight those be changing the color while hovering the link.
Many dead links spotted in the website. Under Customer Spotlights.
Social media links in header. IT provider’s/ Software companies never feature their social media links on the header. In some exceptional case you can find, but it’s very rare. Gone through many websites of IT related companies like Infosys, Honeywell, TCS etc.
Responsive feature. In tab and mobile screens, texts are overlapping and even some sections. Proper QA testing is not done.

Competitor Analysis

I have gone through the company page on LinkedIn and found Robosoft, Purpletalk, Sourcebit etc as related company in the region. Hence I took them as competitors(Since I don’t have a proper source of information, I took this method to find the company’s competitors). The main objective of conducting competitive analysis is to identify your competitors and evaluating their strategies by finding their strengths and weaknesses.

Purple Talk Website Features
  • Used a fullwidth image instead of a fixed banner.
  • Long-scrolling/ Parallax scrolling feature. The advantages of using scrolling features are, this entices users to stay longer in the page and this promotes interaction.
  • Images of their people (Life at PurpleTalk) in the main page. This feature is very popular nowadays.
  • The hamburger menu. This acts as a global menu and header. It also keeps the site uncluttered and works well in all the screen sizes too (mobile, tab etc.)
  • Big typography- Nowadays more and more companies are turning to big and bold typography to anchor their homepages. This style works best when the rest of the page is kept minimal and clean.
  • Customer Analysis

Customer analysis/ User analysis answers questions about end users tasks and goals so that these findings can help make decisions about development and design.

    Wireframe

I have created a sample wireframe for the homepage using the tool- Sketch. Added a minimal design overall to the template. In the header, have added only the logo and below that the main navigation comes. I haven’t added a hamburger menu in this layout, but it will give an added advantage too to the site. Have added a search feature also in the header section which gives the user an easy access to any content presented in the site bye searching the appropriate keyword. After entering the keyword, the search results will display in a separate page.

Below the footer section, you can find a full width responsive banner with carousel controls where you can toggle between each images. My recommendation here will be adding a video instead of sliding images. This feature is widely used nowadays and has become a new design trend. This resulted in attracting new users and keeps the existing visitors. A simple rule of thumb is to lighten text with a dark video or darken text with a lighter video. Latest studies shows the use of Cinemographs on the homepage resulted in a 20% uplift in new visitor conversions.
